He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And hath fear, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
