He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, (1) Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). (2) And what do you know, he may be of the pure! (3) Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? (4) Now he who waxes indifferent, (5) So you are after him! (6) though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. (7) But he who comes to you running, (8) and fearfully, (9) Of him wast thou unmindful. (10) No indeed, this is a Reminder; (11) Let him who will, pay heed to it. (12) It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, (13) Exalted, purified, (14) (Set down) by scribes (15) Honourable and obedient. (16) Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! (17) Of what did He create him? (18) From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, (19) Then maketh the way easy for him, (20) then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, (21) Then He will raise him up again when He please. (22) By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. (23) So let man just consider his food: (24) How We pour water in showers (25) And We split the earth in clefts, (26) how We made the grain to grow, (27) And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), (28) And olives and date palms, (29) and gardens dense with foliage, (30) and fruits and fodder (31) In order to benefit you and your cattle. (32) But when the great calamity comes (33) on that Day each person will flee from his brother, (34) And his mother and his father (35) And his wife and his children, (36) Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). (37) Many faces will that day be bright, (38) laughing, and rejoicing, (39) And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. (40) and covered by darkness. (41) Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. (42)
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
