He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away (1) Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). (2) But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified (3) Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? (4) As for he who is sufficed (5) So you are after him! (6) And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. (7) But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose (8) and who has fear of God, (9) So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! (10) Assuredly this is a reminder (11) So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. (12) (Contained) in honoured pages, (13) Exalted, purified, (14) by the hands of scribes (15) Noble and dutiful. (16) Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; (17) From what did He create him? (18) From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, (19) He makes his path easy for him. (20) Then He caused him to die and be buried (21) then, He will raise him when He wills. (22) Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. (23) Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. (24) We poured down rain abundantly, (25) and split the earth, splitting, (26) how We made the grain to grow, (27) And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), (28) Olives and dates, (29) And dense gardens, (30) And fruits and grass, (31) [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. (32) But when the deafening cry comes, (33) On the Day a man will flee from his brother (34) mother, father, (35) And from his wife and his children. (36) Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). (37) Some faces on that day shall shine (38) laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. (39) And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, (40) and veiled with darkness. (41) Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. (42)
God the Almighty always says the truth.
