He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, (1) Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). (2) What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) (3) or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? (4) Now he who waxes indifferent, (5) To him you give attention. (6) though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. (7) But he who comes to you running, (8) And is also fearful (of God), (9) you pay no heed to him. (10) Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. (11) So let him who pleases mind it. (12) (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). (13) Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, (14) [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, (15) noble and virtuous scribes. (16) Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! (17) From what did He create him? (18) Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, (19) Then made his passage easy (at birth); (20) Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, (21) Then He will raise him up again when He please. (22) Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. (23) So let man just consider his food: (24) How We poured down water in torrents, (25) And We split the earth in clefts, (26) And We made corn grow, (27) and grape vines and vegetables, (28) Olives and dates, (29) And garden-closes of thick foliage (30) and fruit and pastures, (31) For use and convenience to you and your cattle. (32) But when the deafening cry shall be sounded (33) The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, (34) And his mother and his father (35) And his wife and his children, (36) Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. (37) Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news. (39) And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. (40) enveloped by darkness. (41) These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. (42)
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
