He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, (1) that the blind man came to him. (2) What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) (3) (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. (4) As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, (5) to him thou attendest (6) though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- (7) But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, (8) And hath fear, (9) So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! (10) These verses are a reminder (11) For any one who desires to bear it in mind, (12) (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, (13) uplifted, purified, (14) by the hands of scribes (15) Noble and righteous. (16) Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. (17) Of what [stuff] has He created him? (18) Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, (19) and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. (20) Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; (21) Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. (22) Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. (23) Let man reflect on the food he eats. (24) That We watered it in abundance. (25) Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, (26) how We made the grain to grow, (27) and grape vines and vegetables, (28) and olives, and palms, (29) And thick gardens, (30) And fruits and fodder,- (31) A provision for you and your cattle. (32) And when the Blast shall sound, (33) on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, (34) And his mother and his father (35) his wife and his children. (36) Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. (37) Some faces on that day will be radiant, (38) laughing, and rejoicing, (39) And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. (40) and veiled with darkness. (41) Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. (42)
Almighty God's Truth.
