He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, (1) when the blind came to him. (2) You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, (3) Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? (4) As for him who is not in want of any thing, (5) To him dost thou attend; (6) And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. (7) And as to him who comes to you striving hard, (8) And he feareth (9) you ignore him. (10) Nay! surely it is an admonishment. (11) So whoever wills may remember it. (12) (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). (13) exalted and purified, (14) (Written) by the hands of scribes- (15) Honourable and Virtuous. (16) Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! (17) Out of what did Allah create him? (18) He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate (19) then the way eased for him, (20) Then He causes him to die and be buried. (21) and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, (22) Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. (23) Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): (24) how We pour down rain in abundance, (25) Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], (26) And caused to grow within it grain (27) And grapes and herbage (28) Olives and dates, (29) Orchards thick with trees, (30) And fruits and herbage (31) for you and for your animals to enjoy. (32) But when the deafening blast is sounded, (33) On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, (34) And his mother and his father (35) And his spouse and his son-- (36) Each man will have enough cares that day. (37) Many faces will that day be bright, (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news; (39) but others will be gloomy (40) Blackness overcoming them. (41) Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. (42)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
