He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away (1) Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). (2) What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) (3) Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? (4) Yet you pay attention (5) to him thou attendest (6) though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. (7) And as to him who comes to you striving hard, (8) and fearfully, (9) Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, (10) These verses are a reminder (11) So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. (12) It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, (13) most exalted and purified, (14) borne by the hands of scribes, (15) Noble and dutiful. (16) May man be slain how ungrateful he is! (17) Of what did He create him? (18) Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, (19) then the way eased for him, (20) Then He causes him to die and be buried. (21) Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). (22) Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. (23) Let the human reflect on the food he eats, (24) That We pour forth water in abundance, (25) and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, (26) Thereby produced grain in it. (27) And grapes and green fodder (28) And Olives and Dates, (29) the densely tree'd gardens, (30) And fruits and herbage (31) (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. (32) But when the deafening blast is sounded, (33) On the Day a man will flee from his brother (34) And from his mother and his father, (35) As well as his wife and children. (36) Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). (37) Some faces that Day will be beaming, (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). (39) And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, (40) Blackness overcoming them. (41) Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. (42)
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
