He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away (1) Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). (2) How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, (3) Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. (4) Yet you pay attention (5) To him do you address yourself. (6) And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. (7) And as for him who cometh unto thee running, (8) And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), (9) of him you were unmindful. (10) Assuredly this is a reminder (11) and so, whoever is willing may remember Him (12) upon highly honored pages, (13) lofty and pure, (14) Written by the hands of emissaries. (15) Noble and pious. (16) Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! (17) Of what did He create him? (18) Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, (19) Then eased the way for him. (20) Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; (21) and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. (22) No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. (23) Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): (24) That We watered it in abundance. (25) Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], (26) And cause the grain to grow therein (27) grapes, and fresh fodder, (28) and the olive, and the palm, (29) And gardens, dense with many trees, (30) and fruits and herbage, (31) [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. (32) At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- (33) upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, (34) and his mother and his father; (35) And his spouse and his son-- (36) For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy (37) on that Day some faces will be beaming, (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). (39) And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, (40) Darkness shall cover them. (41) These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. (42)
God the Almighty always says the truth.
