He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away (1) because the blind man approached him! (2) But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- (3) Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? (4) Yet you pay attention (5) to a rich man, (6) And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. (7) But as to him who came to you running. (8) And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), (9) Of him wast thou unmindful. (10) Not this way this is the advice. (11) So whoso wills may give heed to it. (12) in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, (13) Exalted, pure. (14) by the hands of scribes (15) noble, pious. (16) Perish Man! How unthankful he is! (17) From what stuff hath He created him? (18) Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, (19) He makes his path easy for him. (20) then causes him to die and buries him, (21) Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. (22) Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. (23) Then let man look at his food, (24) [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; (25) Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, (26) And produce therein corn, (27) and vines and edible plants, (28) and olive trees and date palms (29) the densely tree'd gardens, (30) And fruits and fodder: (31) an enjoyment for you and your flocks. (32) But when there comes the Deafening Blast (33) it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, (34) and from his mother and father, (35) And from his wife and his children. (36) for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. (37) On that day faces will be bright as dawn, (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news. (39) And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. (40) Blackness overcoming them. (41) these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! (42)
True are the words of God the Almighty.
