He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away (1) Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). (2) But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? (3) or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. (4) As for him who thinketh himself independent, (5) To him you attend; (6) Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). (7) but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness (8) and in awe of God (9) From him you are distracted. (10) No indeed, this is a Reminder; (11) So let him who pleases mind it. (12) It is set down on honoured pages, (13) Exalted, purified, (14) By the hands of scribes. (15) noble and virtuous scribes. (16) Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; (17) From what thing doth He create him? (18) From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; (19) Then He eased the way for him; (20) then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, (21) Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). (22) Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. (23) Let Man consider his nourishment. (24) We poured down rain abundantly, (25) And We split the earth in clefts, (26) And We cause therein the grain to grow, (27) And Grapes and nutritious plants, (28) And olive-trees and palm-trees (29) And enclosed gardens luxuriant. (30) and fruits and fodder (31) (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. (32) But when the Shout cometh (33) On the day when a man fleeth from his brother (34) Mother and father, (35) As well as his wife and children. (36) Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. (37) Some faces on that day shall shine (38) Laughing, rejoicing. (39) whereas some faces will be covered with dust (40) Darkness will cover them, (41) those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. (42)
God the Almighty always says the truth.
