He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. (1) Because there came to him the blind man. (2) But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified (3) or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? (4) As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, (5) you attended to him, (6) And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. (7) But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, (8) And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), (9) So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! (10) NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: (11) Let him who will, pay heed to it. (12) It is set down on honoured pages, (13) Exalted, pure. (14) borne by the hands of scribes, (15) Noble and pious. (16) [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! (17) [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? (18) From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, (19) and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. (20) Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, (21) Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) (22) Not one he has not yet completed what he was commanded. (23) Let the human reflect on the food he eats, (24) That We watered it in abundance. (25) Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], (26) to yield therein corn, (27) And grapes and clover, (28) And the olive and the palm, (29) And dense gardens, (30) And fruits and fodder,- (31) Provision for you and your cattle. (32) When the trumpet sounds, (33) Man will fly from his brother, (34) And his mother and his father (35) And his spouse and his son-- (36) Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. (37) Many faces will that day be bright, (38) Laughing and full of joy, (39) but others will be gloomy (40) Darkness shall cover them. (41) Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. (42)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
