He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away (1) Because the blind man came unto him. (2) But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified (3) Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? (4) As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), (5) To him you attend; (6) Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). (7) As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), (8) And whereas he fears, (9) From him will you divert yourself. (10) Nay! surely it is an admonishment. (11) So whoso wills may give heed to it. (12) In honored books, (13) uplifted, purified, (14) borne by the hands of scribes, (15) and angelic scribes. (16) Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! (17) From what did He create him? (18) Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, (19) Then He makes the Path easy for him; (20) He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. (21) and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. (22) Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. (23) Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): (24) We poured out the rains abundantly, (25) Then We split the earth properly. (26) Then We cause to grow therein the grain, (27) And grapes and fodder, (28) And olive and palm trees (29) And gardens, dense with many trees, (30) And fruits and grass, (31) A provision for you and for your cattle. (32) At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- (33) Man will fly from his brother, (34) And from his mother and his father, (35) And his wife and his sons; (36) For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy (37) Some faces on that day will be radiant, (38) Laughing, rejoicing. (39) some faces on that day shall be dusty (40) and overcast with gloom: (41) those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. (42)
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
