He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away (1) that the blind man came to him. (2) How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, (3) Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. (4) As for he who is sufficed (5) To him dost thou attend; (6) although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; (7) And as to him who comes to you striving hard, (8) And he fears, (9) Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, (10) These verses are a reminder (11) so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. (12) (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, (13) exalted, purified, (14) (Written) by the hands of scribes- (15) Noble and dutiful. (16) Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! (17) From what did He create him? (18) Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, (19) then eased his path for him, (20) Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; (21) then, when He wills, He raises him. (22) Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. (23) Let man reflect on the food he eats. (24) We let the rain pour down in torrents (25) And We split the earth in clefts, (26) Then We cause to grow therein the grain, (27) And grapes and clover, (28) and olive trees and date-palms, (29) And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, (30) And fruits and fodder,- (31) as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. (32) But when the deafening cry comes, (33) it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, (34) And his mother and his father, (35) And his wife and his children, (36) for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. (37) (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, (38) laughing, and rejoicing, (39) And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; (40) Blackness will cover them. (41) Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. (42)
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
