He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. (1) Because there came unto him a blind man. (2) You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, (3) Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? (4) As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient (5) You pay full attention, (6) Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). (7) And he who comes to thee eagerly (8) And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), (9) Of him wast thou unmindful. (10) No indeed; this is only a Reminder. (11) and so, whoever is willing may remember Him (12) (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, (13) uplifted, purified, (14) (Set down) by scribes (15) and angelic scribes. (16) Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! (17) From what did He create him? (18) From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; (19) Then eased the way for him. (20) Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; (21) Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. (22) By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. (23) Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. (24) For that We pour forth water in abundance, (25) Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], (26) And produce therein corn, (27) And grapes and fodder, (28) and olives, and palms, (29) Orchards thick with trees, (30) And fruits and grass, (31) as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. (32) At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- (33) On that day man will run away from his brother. (34) and his mother and his father; (35) And from his wife and sons. (36) Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. (37) Many a face will be glittering on that day. (38) and be cheerful and joyous. (39) And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. (40) and veiled with darkness. (41) These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. (42)
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
