He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. (1) Because there came to him the blind man. (2) What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, (3) (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. (4) As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), (5) you eagerly attended to him -- (6) Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). (7) but as for one who comes to you, eagerly (8) And is also fearful (of God), (9) From him thou art distracted. (10) By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: (11) and whosoever wills, shall remember it. (12) upon highly honored pages, (13) most exalted and purified, (14) By the hands of scribes. (15) noble and pious. (16) [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! (17) Of what thing hath He created him? (18) From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, (19) then the way eased for him, (20) Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; (21) and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, (22) Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. (23) Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): (24) We let the rain pour down in torrents (25) and split the earth, splitting, (26) then caused the grain to grow out of it, (27) And grapes and clover, (28) and olives and palms, (29) the densely tree'd gardens, (30) And fruits and grass, (31) an enjoyment for you and your flocks. (32) But when there comes the Deafening Blast (33) That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, (34) mother, father, (35) And from his wife and his children. (36) every man that day shall have business to suffice him. (37) Many a face will be glittering on that day. (38) Laughing, joyous. (39) And many will be dust-begrimed, (40) Veiled in darkness, (41) Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. (42)
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
