He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away (1) Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). (2) But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified (3) or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. (4) As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), (5) you eagerly attended to him -- (6) Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). (7) But he who comes to you running, (8) And hath fear, (9) to him thou payest no heed. (10) By no means! Verily it is an admonition. (11) and so, whoever is willing may remember Him (12) On honourable pages. (13) Exalted and holy, (14) [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, (15) and angelic scribes. (16) Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! (17) From what did He create him? (18) From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; (19) Then doth He make His path smooth for him; (20) then causes him to die and buries him, (21) and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. (22) By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. (23) Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. (24) That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, (25) and split the earth, splitting, (26) Then We cause therein the grain to grow, (27) together with grapes and vegetables, (28) And olives and date-palms, (29) And dense gardens, (30) And fruits and herbage (31) In order to benefit you and your cattle. (32) But when the great calamity comes (33) upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, (34) And from his mother and father, (35) And his wife and his sons; (36) Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. (37) [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news. (39) And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; (40) o'erspread with darkness -- (41) Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. (42)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
