He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away (1) because the blind man approached him! (2) How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, (3) Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? (4) As for him who was indifferent, (5) to him thou attendest (6) And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. (7) But he who comes to you running, (8) While he fears [Allah], (9) you pay him no heed. (10) By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: (11) so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. (12) (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). (13) Exalted and holy, (14) by the hands of scribes (15) noble and most virtuous. (16) Perish Man! How unthankful he is! (17) Out of what did Allah create him? (18) Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, (19) Then made his passage easy (at birth); (20) Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. (21) and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, (22) Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. (23) Let man reflect on the food he eats. (24) That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, (25) Then split the earth in clefts (26) and therein made the grains to grow (27) And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), (28) And olives and palms (29) And enclosed gardens luxuriant. (30) And fruits and grasses: (31) A provision for you and for your cattle. (32) When the trumpet sounds, (33) on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, (34) And his mother and his father, (35) And his wife and his sons; (36) For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy (37) Some faces will shine, (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news; (39) Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, (40) Darkness shall cover them. (41) these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! (42)
Almighty God's Truth.
