He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, (1) Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). (2) for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, (3) or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. (4) As for him who was indifferent, (5) you eagerly attended to him -- (6) What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). (7) but as for one who comes to you, eagerly (8) and in awe [of God] (9) Of him wast thou unmindful. (10) No indeed, this is a Reminder; (11) so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. (12) (Contained) in honoured pages, (13) exalted and purified, (14) (Set down) by scribes (15) noble, pious. (16) Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. (17) [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? (18) From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; (19) Then doth He make His path smooth for him; (20) Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, (21) Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). (22) Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. (23) Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): (24) How We poured down water in torrents, (25) and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; (26) and therein made the grains to grow (27) and grape vines and vegetables, (28) and the olive, and the palm, (29) and gardens dense with foliage, (30) and fruits, and pastures, (31) For use and convenience to you and your cattle. (32) But, when the Blast comes, (33) On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, (34) And his mother and his father (35) And his wife and his children, (36) Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. (37) Some faces on that day will be radiant, (38) laughing and joyous (39) And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, (40) and covered by darkness. (41) those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. (42)
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
