He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away (1) Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. (2) What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) (3) Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. (4) As for him who thinketh himself independent, (5) To him dost thou attend; (6) Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). (7) As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). (8) and fearfully, (9) of him you were unmindful. (10) Assuredly this is a reminder (11) so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. (12) (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, (13) Exalted, pure. (14) by the hands of scribes (15) and angelic scribes. (16) Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. (17) From what substance did He create him? (18) From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, (19) and then makes it easy for him to go through life; (20) Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, (21) then, He will raise him when He wills. (22) Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. (23) Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. (24) how We pour down rain in abundance, (25) Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, (26) and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, (27) And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), (28) and olive trees and date-palms, (29) And gardens of dense shrubbery (30) and fruits and fodder (31) For use and convenience to you and your cattle. (32) So when the deafening Shout arrives, (33) On the Day a man will flee from his brother (34) And his mother and his father, (35) And his wife and his children, (36) Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. (37) On that day faces will be bright as dawn, (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). (39) And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; (40) Blackness will cover them: (41) Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. (42)
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
