He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, (1) that the blind man came to him. (2) And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, (3) or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. (4) As for him who thinketh himself independent, (5) to him didst thou give thy whole attention, (6) although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; (7) And for him who came to you striving, (8) and who has fear of God, (9) you ignore him. (10) No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; (11) and whosoever wills, shall remember it. (12) Inscribed in Writs honoured, (13) Exalted and holy, (14) borne by the hands of scribes, (15) Honourable and Pious and Just. (16) [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! (17) From what stuff hath He created him? (18) Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, (19) Then He makes the Path easy for him; (20) Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; (21) Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. (22) Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. (23) Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: (24) For that We pour forth water in abundance, (25) and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, (26) We make the grain grow out of it, (27) And grapes and herbage, (28) And olives and date-palms, (29) the densely tree'd gardens, (30) and fruits and fodder (31) (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. (32) At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- (33) The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, (34) And from his mother and his father, (35) As well as his wife and children. (36) on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. (37) [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news; (39) And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, (40) enveloped by darkness. (41) Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. (42)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
