He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, (1) Because there came to him the blind man. (2) But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- (3) Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? (4) As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient (5) you attend to him, (6) Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). (7) but as for one who comes to you, eagerly (8) And hath fear, (9) Of him wast thou unmindful. (10) No indeed, this is a Reminder; (11) So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. (12) (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). (13) Exalted and purified, (14) by the hands of the noble, virtuous, (15) Noble and righteous. (16) May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? (17) From what did He create him? (18) Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, (19) Then doth He make His path smooth for him; (20) Then He causes him to die and be buried. (21) Then He will raise him up again when He please. (22) No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. (23) Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): (24) We poured out the rains abundantly, (25) Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) (26) And We cause therein the grain to grow, (27) And grapes and vegetables (28) And olives and palms (29) thickly planted gardens, (30) and fruits and herbage, (31) In order to benefit you and your cattle. (32) But when the great calamity comes (33) That Day shall a man flee from his brother, (34) and from his mother and father, (35) and from his spouse and his children: (36) For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy (37) Many faces will that day be bright, (38) Laughing, rejoicing at good news. (39) And many will be dust-begrimed, (40) and overcast with gloom: (41) Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. (42)
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
