The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
46 verses, revealed in Mecca after The News (Al-Naba') before Shattering (Al-Infitaar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers), (1) By those who gently draw out (the souls of the blessed); (2) by the swimmers (angels) swimming gently (3) by those that outstrip them suddenly, (4) by those that direct an affair! (5) On the day when the first trumpet sound blasts (6) And the following event will come after it. (7) Hearts that Day will be in agitation; (8) Their eyes cast down. (9) The disbelievers say, “Will we really return to our former state?” (10) "What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?" (11) They say: "Then this returning will be a dead loss." (12) [But,] then, that [Last Hour] will be [upon them of a sudden, as if it were] but a single accusing cry (13) And lo! they will be awakened. (14) Have you received the story of Moses? (15) When his Lord called to him in the holy valley, Towa: (16) That “Go to Firaun he has rebelled.” (17) "And say to him, 'Wouldst thou that thou shouldst be purified (from sin)?- (18) ‘And I may guide you to your Lord, so that you may fear.’” (19) Then he shewed him the great sign. (20) But he rejected (the truth) and disobeyed. (21) and then he turned back to have recourse to his craftiness, (22) and gathered his people and declared: (23) then said: 'I am your lord, the most high' (24) but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present: (25) Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). (26)
