The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
46 verses, revealed in Mecca after The News (Al-Naba') before Shattering (Al-Infitaar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, (1) By the angels who release with gentle release. (2) And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits, etc.). (3) and the outstrippers (angels), outstripping, (4) Then those who regulate the affair. (5) On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die), (6) And there will follow it the next blast. (7) Hearts, that Day, will tremble, (8) Their eyes cast down. (9) [And yet,] some say: "What! Are we indeed to be restored to our former state (10) Even after we are crumbled bones? (11) They will say: 'Then we are returned lost' (12) But verily, it will be but a single (Compelling) Cry, (13) When, behold, they find themselves over the earth alive after their death, (14) (Muhammad), have you heard the story of Moses (15) How his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa, (16) "Go to the Pharaoh who has become refractory, (17) And say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace)? (18) And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'" (19) So he showed him the greater sign; (20) But he denied and disobeyed, (21) and then he turned back to have recourse to his craftiness, (22) And he summoned all his people, (23) saying, "I am your supreme lord". (24) But Allah did punish him, (and made an) example of him, - in the Hereafter, as in this life. (25) Surely in that is a lesson for him who fears! (26)
