The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
46 verses, revealed in Mecca after The News (Al-Naba') before Shattering (Al-Infitaar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of those who harshly pull out the soul. (Of the disbeliever) (1) By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers); (2) and by [the clouds] that swim serenely and (3) by those that outstrip them suddenly, (4) and then manage the affairs of the Universe (according to their Lord's commands). (5) [HENCE, think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world,] (6) to be followed by further [convulsions], (7) (Some) hearts that Day will shake with fear and anxiety. (8) Cast down will be (their owners') eyes. (9) (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state (10) after we have become bones and dust?" (11) and they say, "That indeed would be a losing return." (12) But it shall be only a single scare, (13) and lo, they will all be in the open plain. (14) Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses? (15) When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, (16) Go to Firon, surely he has become inordinate. (17) And say to him: "Would you purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief by becoming a believer)", (18) and that I should guide thee to thy Lord, then thou shalt fear?"' (19) So he showed him the mighty sign. (20) In response, he denied and disobeyed. (21) Then turned he away in haste, (22) and then he gathered [his great ones,] and called [unto his people,] (23) Saying: "I am your lord, most high", (24) So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. (25) Indeed in that is a warning for whoever would fear [Allah]. (26)
