The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
46 verses, revealed in Mecca after The News (Al-Naba') before Shattering (Al-Infitaar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, (1) And who softly release the soul. (Of the believer) (2) And those who glide swimmingly, (3) And those who race each other in a race (4) and by those who regulate events. (5) The day the convulsive (first blast) shatters convulsively (6) and the second blast follows it, (7) Hearts will pound loudly on that day, (8) and their eyes will be humbled. (9) They shall say, 'What, are we being restored as we were before? (10) even after we have turned into decayed bones?" (11) They shall say, 'That then were a losing return!' (12) It will only be a single blast, (13) And lo! they all shall appear on the surface. (14) Has the story of Moses come to you (15) When his Lord called upon him in the holy valley, twice, (16) [saying], "Go to Pharaoh, he has exceeded all bounds, (17) And say: 'Would you like to grow (in virtue)? (18) [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" (19) And he showed him the tremendous token. (20) but he denied it and refused [the faith]. (21) Then turned he away in haste, (22) and gathered his people together (23) Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High". (24) So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former. (25) In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. (26)
