The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
46 verses, revealed in Mecca after The News (Al-Naba') before Shattering (Al-Infitaar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 by the drawers (the angels of death), gently drawing (the souls of the believers), 2 And by those who float in space, 3 And those who race each other in a race 4 And those who govern the event, 5 On the Day (when the first blowing of the Trumpet is blown), the earth and the mountains will shake violently (and everybody will die), 6 The second blowing of the Trumpet follows it (and everybody will be raised up), 7 On that Day some hearts shall tremble (with fright), 8 while eyes will be downcast. 9 They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]? 10 even though we may have become [a heap of] crumbling bones?" 11 They say: “That will then be a return with a great loss!” 12 Surely they will need no more than a single stern blast, 13 So they will immediately be in an open plain. 14 Hast thou received the story of Moses? 15 His Lord called to him in the Sacred Valley of Towa, 16 [saying], "Go to Pharaoh, he has exceeded all bounds, 17 and say [unto him,] 'Art thou desirous of attaining to purity? 18 Do you want me to guide you to your Lord, so that you should fear Him?'" 19 Moses showed him the great sign, 20 but the Pharaoh rejected it and disobeyed (Moses). 21 Then he went back hastily. 22 And he gathered [his people] and called out 23 Saying, "I am your Lord, Most High". 24 So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former. 25 surely there is in this a lesson for the God-fearing. 26
