46 verses, revealed in Mecca after The News (Al-Naba') before Shattering (Al-Infitaar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the angels who violently tear-out the souls of the disbelievers from their bodies, (1) By those (angels) who gently take out (the souls of the believers); (2) And by those that swim along (i.e. angels or planets in their orbits, etc.). (3) by those that outstrip them suddenly, (4) And then they manage the affair, (5) Upon the day when the first blast shivers (6) and will be followed by the second one, (7) Hearts on that day shall palpitate, (8) and their eyes shall be downcast with dread. (9) They say: “Shall we indeed be restored to life, (10) Even if we should be decayed bones? (11) They say: that then shall be a losing return. (12) But only, it will be a single Zajrah [shout (i.e., the second blowing of the Trumpet)]. (See Verse 37:19). (13) to bring them out of their graves and back to life on the earth's surface. (14) (Muhammad), have you heard the story of Moses (15) Lo! His Sustainer called out to him in the twice-hallowed valley: (16) "Go unto Pharaoh - for, verily, he has transgressed all bounds of what is right (17) And say, "Hast thou the will to purify thyself; (18) Then I shall guide thee unto thy Lord so that thou shalt fear. (19) And thereupon he [went to Pharaoh and] made him aware of the great wonder [of God's grace]. (20) But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed. (21) Then he turned away, deliberating, (22) Then he gathered (men) and called out. (23) and proclaimed, "I am your supreme Lord," (24) So God seized him with the chastisement of the Last World and the First. (25) Verily in this is an instructive warning for whosoever feareth (Allah). (26)
