The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned? (1) We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. (2) Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. (3) For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire. (4) But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; (5) a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. (6) They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. (7) And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, (8) They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” (9) We are afraid of our Lord and the bitterly distressful day". (10) And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, (11) and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. (12) Where they will recline on couches feeling neither heat of the sun nor intense cold. (13) And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. (14) They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. (15) crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. (16) And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- (17) (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. (18) ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; (19) And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. (20) Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. (21) "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." (22)
