The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. (1) We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. (2) We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). (3) Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. (4) Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, (5) This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. (6) [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, (7) And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, (8) We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks: (9) behold, we stand in awe of our Sustainer's judgment on a distressful, fateful Day!" (10) So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. (11) And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. (12) Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. (13) since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. (14) And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], (15) Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. (16) And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, (17) A spring there, called Salsabil. (18) ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, (19) When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. (20) Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. (21) (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." (22)
