31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 Indeed We have created man from mixed semen; in order to test him We therefore made him hearing, knowing. 2 Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 Reclining upon couches, they will find therein neither the heat of the sun nor bitter, biting cold, 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 and passed around them shall be silver vessels, and crystal goblets, 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 From a spring by the name of Ever-flowing-Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 It will be said to them, “This is your reward indeed your efforts have been appreciated.” 22
