The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? (1) Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. (2) Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. (3) Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. (4) [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: (5) a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. (6) These will be the ones who fulfil their vows and dread the Day whose woe shall be spread far and wide; (7) those who, for the love of Him, feed the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, (8) (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, (9) “Indeed we fear from our Lord a day which is extremely bitter, most severe.” (10) Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; (11) And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, (12) Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). (13) And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. (14) And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], (15) Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. (16) There will they drink a cup flavoured with ginger (17) Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. (18) ۞ And boys of everlasting youth will go about attending them. Looking at them you would think that they were pearls dispersed. (19) If you were to see it, you would find it to be a great kingdom with great bounty. (20) Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. (21) Behold, this is a recompense for you, and your striving is thanked.' (22)
