The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? (1) We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. (2) Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. (3) Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. (4) Indeed the virtuous will drink from a cup, containing a mixture of Kafoor. (5) From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. (6) They keep their vows and fear a day the woe of which will spread far and wide; (7) And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, (8) They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” (9) “Indeed we fear from our Lord a day which is extremely bitter, most severe.” (10) So Allah shall guard them against the woe of that Day, and will procure them freshness and joy, (11) For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. (12) therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; (13) And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. (14) And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. (15) And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. (16) And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, (17) (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. (18) ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; (19) And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. (20) Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. (21) [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." (22)
