The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned? (1) Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. (2) Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. (3) [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but (4) Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, (5) a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. (6) They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. (7) And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, (8) They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” (9) "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." (10) But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. (11) And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. (12) Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. (13) And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. (14) Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. (15) Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. (16) And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), (17) therein a fountain whose name is called Salsabil. (18) ۞ And boys of everlasting youth will go about attending them. Looking at them you would think that they were pearls dispersed. (19) when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. (20) Their garments will be of fine green silk, and gold embroidery. They will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a pure drink. (21) Surely this is a reward for you, and your striving shall be recompensed. (22)
