The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? (1) We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. (2) Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). (3) We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. (4) Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, (5) which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. (6) The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. (7) who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, (8) (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, (9) Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." (10) But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. (11) And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, (12) Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). (13) And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. (14) and passed around them shall be silver vessels, and crystal goblets, (15) crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. (16) And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. (17) From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. (18) ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. (19) Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. (20) They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. (21) It will be said to them, “This is your reward indeed your efforts have been appreciated.” (22)
