The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? (1) Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. (2) We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. (3) We have prepared for unbelievers chains and collars and a blazing fire. (4) Surely the devotees will drink cups flavoured with palm blossoms (5) a fountain at which the worshipers of Allah drink and make it gush forth abundantly; (6) They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. (7) And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, (8) (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. (9) for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' (10) So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. (11) and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. (12) Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. (13) And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. (14) And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, (15) and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, (16) And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger (17) [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". (18) ۞ And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls. (19) And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. (20) Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. (21) Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. (22)
