The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? (1) We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; (2) We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. (3) For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire. (4) The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. (5) A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, (6) They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. (7) And they feed with food, for love of Him, the needy, and the orphan and the captive. (8) saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. (9) "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." (10) So Allah saved them from the evil of that Day, and gave them Nadratan (a light of beauty) and joy. (11) And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. (12) Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. (13) Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, (14) And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, (15) goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. (16) And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, (17) A spring there, called Salsabil. (18) ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. (19) When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. (20) Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. (21) Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. (22)
