The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? (1) We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; (2) Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. (3) Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. (4) [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: (5) The Kafoor is a spring, from which the chosen bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to flow wherever they wish inside their palaces. (6) They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. (7) And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, (8) [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: (9) Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. (10) Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. (11) And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, (12) Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). (13) And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. (14) Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. (15) (Transparent as) glass, made of silver; they have measured them according to a measure. (16) And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, (17) from a fountain called Salsabila. (18) ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. (19) and when thou seest [anything that is] there thou wilt see [only] bliss and a realm transcendent (20) Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. (21) (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. (22)
