The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Hath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 Reclining therein on raised thrones, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor the excessive bitter cold, (as in Paradise there is no sun and no moon). 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. 20 They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
