The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? (1) Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. (2) Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. (3) For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire. (4) [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: (5) The Kafoor is a spring, from which the chosen bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to flow wherever they wish inside their palaces. (6) (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, (7) those who, for the love of Him, feed the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, (8) saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. (9) We are afraid of our Lord and the bitterly distressful day". (10) So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, (11) and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. (12) [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. (13) And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. (14) And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, (15) crystal-like, [but] of silver - the measure whereof they alone will determine. (16) And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. (17) [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. (18) ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. (19) And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. (20) In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. (21) This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. (22)
