The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? (1) We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. (2) Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. (3) Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. (4) Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, (5) This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. (6) They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; (7) And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. (8) (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. (9) for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. (10) Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. (11) and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. (12) [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. (13) since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. (14) and passed around them shall be silver vessels, and crystal goblets, (15) goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. (16) And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, (17) (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. (18) ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. (19) When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. (20) Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. (21) This is your reward. Your endeavour is fully acknowledged. (22)
