The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? (1) Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. (2) Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). (3) Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. (4) [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: (5) a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. (6) They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. (7) who give food, for the love of Him to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, (8) [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: (9) for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' (10) So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. (11) And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; (12) They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. (13) The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. (14) Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, (15) and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, (16) And they shall be given to drink from a cup whose mixture is ginger, (17) A spring there, called Salsabil. (18) ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. (19) And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. (20) They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. (21) "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." (22)
