The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? (1) Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. (2) We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. (3) Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. (4) The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. (5) From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. (6) They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; (7) And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: (8) saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. (9) behold, we stand in awe of our Sustainer's judgment on a distressful, fateful Day!" (10) Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, (11) For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. (12) Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. (13) And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. (14) And they will be waited upon with vessels of silver and goblets that will [seem to] be crystal (15) Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. (16) Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, (17) Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. (18) ۞ There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls. (19) And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. (20) Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. (21) "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." (22)
