The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? (1) Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing. (2) We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). (3) We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. (4) [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: (5) This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. (6) They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. (7) and who give food - however great be their own want of it - unto the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, (8) They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” (9) Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." (10) So Allah shall guard them against the woe of that Day, and will procure them freshness and joy, (11) And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, (12) Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. (13) And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. (14) and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, (15) Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. (16) And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), (17) A fountain there, called Salsabil. (18) ۞ They will be attended by youths who will not age -- when you see them you will think them to be like sprinkled pearls -- (19) And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. (20) Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink. (21) "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." (22)
