The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Hath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered? (1) Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. (2) Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. (3) Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. (4) Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, (5) From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. (6) The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. (7) And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, (8) [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: (9) Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. (10) Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. (11) And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. (12) Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. (13) near them shall be its shades, and its clusters hung meekly down, (14) And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, (15) goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. (16) There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, (17) A spring there, called Salsabil. (18) ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. (19) when thou seest them then thou seest bliss and a great kingdom. (20) they will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets. And their Lord will give them a pure drink. (21) [And they will be told:] "Verily, all this is your reward since Your endeavour [in life] has met [God's] goodly acceptance!" (22)
