The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? (1) We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. (2) Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. (3) For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. (4) [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: (5) A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. (6) The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. (7) And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, (8) "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. (9) "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." (10) So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness (11) And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; (12) Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. (13) And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. (14) And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, (15) Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. (16) There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, (17) A fountain there, called Salsabil. (18) ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. (19) When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. (20) Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. (21) (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." (22)
