The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. (1) Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing. (2) We showed him the right path whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. (3) [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth, We have prepared chains, iron collars and a blazing fire, but (4) [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: (5) A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance. (6) (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, (7) And feed the needy for the love of Him, and the orphans and the captives, (8) [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. (9) behold, we stand in awe of our Sustainer's judgment on a distressful, fateful Day!" (10) But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. (11) And their recompense shall be Paradise, and silken garments, because they were patient. (12) Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. (13) since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. (14) And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, (15) Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. (16) And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. (17) From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. (18) ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; (19) And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. (20) They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. (21) Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. (22)
