The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? (1) Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. (2) Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. (3) [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame (4) As to the Righteous, they shall drink of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Kafur,- (5) a fountain whereat drink the servants of God, making it to gush forth plenteously. (6) They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. (7) and who give food - however great be their own want of it - unto the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, (8) Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks. (9) "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." (10) Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. (11) and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. (12) Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. (13) And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. (14) They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. (15) Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. (16) And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. (17) From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. (18) ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. (19) Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. (20) Upon the inhabitants will be green garments of fine silk and brocade. And they will be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord will give them a purifying drink. (21) [And they will be told:] "Verily, all this is your reward since Your endeavour [in life] has met [God's] goodly acceptance!" (22)
