The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? (1) We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; (2) Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. (3) Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. (4) the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, (5) which flows from a spring from which the servants of God will drink. (6) They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. (7) And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, (8) [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. (9) Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. (10) So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, (11) and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. (12) In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, (13) And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. (14) Vessels of silver and goblets of pure crystal will be passed round among them (15) (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). (16) And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, (17) (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. (18) ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. (19) and when thou seest [anything that is] there thou wilt see [only] bliss and a realm transcendent (20) Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. (21) Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. (22)
