The Human (Al-Insan)
31 verses, revealed in Medina after The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman) before Divorce (Al-Talaaq)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Was there a period of time when man was not even worthy of a mention? (1) We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. (2) We have indeed shown him the way whether he is grateful or ingrate. (3) Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. (4) [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: (5) A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. (6) They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. (7) And they feed with food, for love of Him, the needy, and the orphan and the captive. (8) We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks: (9) for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' (10) So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, (11) And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; (12) therein they shall recline upon couches, therein they shall see neither sun nor bitter cold; (13) The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. (14) And there will be circulated among them vessels of silver and cups having been [created] clear [as glass], (15) crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. (16) And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. (17) A spring there, called Salsabil. (18) ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. (19) And when you see there, you shall see blessings and a great kingdom. (20) On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. (21) It will be said to them, “This is your reward indeed your efforts have been appreciated.” (22)
