Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Shocker (Al-Qaare'ah) before The Backbiter (Al-Hummazah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do call to witness the Resurrection Day; (1) Nay, I swear by the accusing soul (that this Scripture is true). (2) What, does man reckon We shall not gather his bones? (3) Yes indeed; We are able to shape again his fingers. (4) Yet man wants to deny what is ahead of him: (5) he asks, "When is this Day of Resurrection to be?" (6) But [on that Day], when mortal sight is confounded, (7) And the moon is buried in darkness. (8) And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light, etc.) (9) Man shall say on that day: Whither to fly to? (10) Never! There is no refuge! (11) With thy Sustainer, on that Day, the journey's end will be! (12) On that Day will man be apprised of his deeds, both the earlier and the later. (13) He shall be a clear proof against himself, (14) in spite of all the excuses he may offer. (15) Move not thy tongue with it to hasten it; (16) for, behold, it is for Us to gather it [in thy heart,] and to cause it to be read [as it ought to be read]. (17) And when We read it, follow thou the reading; (18) Then lo! upon Us (resteth) the explanation thereof. (19) Nay, but ye do love the fleeting Now (20) And neglect the Hereafter. (21) Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, (22) Looking at their Lord. (23) And some faces, that Day, will be sad and dismal, (24) Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking. (25) No indeed; when it reaches the clavicles (26) And it is said: Who will be a magician? (27) and he knows that it is the time of parting; (28) when his legs are brought together [when affliction is combined with affliction]; (29) Unto thy Lord that day will be the driving. (30)
