40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Shocker (Al-Qaare'ah) before The Backbiter (Al-Hummazah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by the Day of Resurrection (1) No! I swear by the reproachful soul. (2) Does man think We shall not put his bones together? (3) Yes indeed; We have the power to remould even his finger-tips. (4) Nay, but man desires to continue on as a libertine, (5) He asks, "When will be the Day of Judgment?" (6) When the eye is bewildered, (7) the moon eclipsed. (8) and the sun and the moon are brought together (9) Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape?" (10) No, there is no refuge. (11) On that day, the station is only towards your Lord. (12) On that Day man will be informed of what he sent forward (of his evil or good deeds), and what he left behind (of his good or evil traditions). (13) nay, but man shall against himself be an eye-witness, (14) Whatever the excuses he may offer. (15) MOVE NOT thy tongue in haste, [repeating the words of the revelation:] (16) Surely its collection and recitation are Our responsibility. (17) And when We have recited it to you [O Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)], then follow you its (the Quran's) recital. (18) We shall be responsible for its explanation. (19) By no means! Verily ye love the Herein. (20) And leave the Hereafter. (21) That day will faces be resplendent, (22) Looking toward their Lord; (23) And some faces, that Day, will be sad and dismal, (24) Knowing that there will be made to befall them some great calamity. (25) NAY, but when [the last breath] comes up to the throat [of a dying man,] (26) And it is asked: "Is there any reciter of charms and amulets?" (27) And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation (28) And one shank is entangled with the other shank. (29) On that day, the herding will be only towards your Lord. (30)
