The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! (1) Arise and deliver thy warning! (2) And your Lord (Allah) magnify! (3) And thine inner self purify! (4) And all abomination shun! (5) Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! (6) But for your Lord be patient. (7) And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, (8) that very Day shall be a day of anguish, (9) It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. (10) Leave him to Me whom I created alone, (11) And then bestowed upon him ample means, (12) and sons standing before him, (13) And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. (14) Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- (15) No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. (16) and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. (17) Verily, he thought and plotted; (18) death seized him, how was his determining! (19) Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. (20) Then he looked around, (21) And frowned and puckered his brow, (22) Then he turned away, and was haughty. (23) Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); (24) Naught is this but the word of Man. (25) I will cast him into Hell-fire (26) What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? (27) It leaveth naught; it spareth naught (28) making [all truth] visible to mortal man. (29) Over it are nineteen [angels]. (30) We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. (31)
