The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 purify your garments; 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked around, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Burning the skins! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
