The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
