The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), (1) Arise and warn! (2) Proclaim the glory of your Lord; (3) And keep your clothes clean. (4) And all abomination shun! (5) and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. (6) And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! (7) And when the trumpet is blown, (8) So that is a tough day. (9) and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. (10) LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, (11) and to whom I have granted resources vast, (12) And sons to be by his side!- (13) And made (life) smooth for him. (14) And who yet coveteth that shall increase. (15) By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: (16) [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! (17) He planned and plotted. (18) So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. (19) And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! (20) and then he looks [around for new arguments,] (21) then he frowned, and scowled, (22) then he retreated and waxed proud, (23) Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; (24) This is naught but the word of a mortal. (25) Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. (26) And what can make you know what is Saqar? (27) Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- (28) It scorches the mortal. (29) Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). (30) We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. (31)
